Console FAQ

We often get calls about weather stations dropping out, more often than not that is because of RF interference, this is most often rectified by changing the channel that the ISS (outdoor unit) and console operate under.

Below is a visual guide to accomplish both.

Console not displaying any data?
Calibrating Wind Direction.

When you purchase a Davis Instruments Vantage pro 2 or Vantage Vue the wind anemometer needs to be calibrated for operation in the southern hemisphere.

Below is a visual guide to accomplish this.

Setting up a new Weather Station

Setting up a new Weather Station is exciting and shortly you will have access to powerful information about the climatic conditions right at your site.

Beware that ants and insects may make a new home inside your Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS). Inspect the ISS regularly and maintain the sensor suite following the instructions for your weather station below.

Siting Your Station

Finding the perfect location for your weather station takes some consideration and you may find that deciding which readings are most important to you, will determine where you locate the station. Take a look following siting information which may be helpful in determining where to locate you weather station. If accurate rainfall measurements are important to you, take a look at the Bureau of Meteorology's guidelines. and don't forget to purchase a 7716 Mounting Tripod if your site doesn't already have good mounting infrastructure.

Vantage Vue

Once you have chosen a location, the attached Vantage Vue Integrated Sensor Suite and Console manuals will help you get set up. A few tips;

  • As we are in the Southern Hemisphere, ideally the ISS Solar Panel will be facing the North. As a result the wind direction will need to be adjusted by 180 degrees. Click here for instructions.

  • If you are having issues gaining connection between the ISS and Console, try keeping the units apart to avoid looping and be patient, initial connection can take some time.

  • If the units are still not communicating, make sure that the function 'Retransmit' on set up screen 7 is set to 'OFF' (unless you are using additional consoles as repeaters).

  • If your station communications occasionally drop out, or unusual data is received, it could be that your system is receiving interference. Consider setting your ISS and Console to transmit and receive on a different channel. Click here for instructions.

  • Performing regular maintenance on your Vantage Vue weather station will keep it running smoothly.  Watch this short video to see how quick and easy it is to clean and take care of your weather station.

If you are connecting up a WeatherLink data logger and are experiencing connection issues, ensure that the data logger is well seated in the console cradle. When powering up a Vantage Vue Console you should hear 4 beeps, or 3 beeps on a Vantage Pro 2 Console, when the data logger has successfully connected.

If your data logger has been recognised by the console but you are still experiencing issues, take a look at the following videos for further support.

WeatherLink USB

  • If you are having issues communicating with a USB data logger, or if windows does not recognize the device, you can try running the data logger as a virtual serial device.

WeatherLink IP

  • If your IP logger loses connection with the servers and often needs restarting, this can normally be solved by assigning a static IP address. Follow the video or download our step by step guide.
